Helping our community food system thrive

DRR Processing was formed to answer a specific need of our family farm and to provide a vital service to other farming families in our community. Small farmers and ranchers running poultry programs in Central and East Texas have been disadvantaged due to the limited availability of poultry processing facilities since October of 2022 when the only local USDA Poultry Processing Facility closed. After this closure, local producers had few options to process their birds for sale. The closest remaining USDA-inspected facility is located outside of Dallas, Texas. For many of these producers, this requires a three to four-hour trip, one way, from farm to processor, and the loss of production capacity required to transport their product such a distance for processing. The long travel distance is additionally difficult for the livestock depending on weather and/or traffic conditions between the farm and the processing facility. This loss of production time and long distance has resulted in a decrease or complete halt of production for farmers (like us) who needed help to logistically manage the time required to access USDA-inspected processing for their ideal production capacity.

Our Facility is sized to meet our needs and those of our local farmers and ranchers while staying environmentally conscious. The small footprint of our facility provides the necessary processing capacity for the region while limiting its impact. Small local processing facilities such as ours limit the need for large-scale processing operations to enter, which process dozens of times our monthly totals each day, causing a significant impact on local communities, infrastructure, and the environment. Our size and scale allow for practices that follow strict cleanliness and facility management guidelines, employing best practices in all operations. Our facility employs a proven production model used by other small producers nationwide. Our infrastructure is built to meet and exceed USDA cleanliness and product quality standards.

DRR Processing is located on Deeply Rooted Ranch and shares a mission to promote the small farmer, regenerative agriculture, and soil health while fostering educational opportunities for students, teachers, farmers, and the greater community. Supporting small farmers and ranchers in local communities is of the greatest importance to our entire team in providing healthy, nutrient-rich food to our families and the greater community.
